Summary
This module will develop students’ skills enabling them to communicate design ideas, concepts and final designs in a clear visual manner. It aims to develop techniques, computer based tools that are essential in their course and professional product design.
Re-assessment
Students who fail this module overall and are required to complete a re-assessment will be re-assessed by coursework. The re-assessment mark for the module will be a combination of the marks from coursework passed first time and the coursework which have been re-assessed.
Target Students
Students undertaking Product Design and Manufacture.
Co-requisites
Modules you must take in the same academic year, or have taken in a previous year, to enrol in this module:
Assessment
- 25% Coursework 1: CW1 - CAD Assignment (5 credits) (Module LO2)
- 25% Coursework 2: CW2 - Engineering Drawings (5 credits) (Module LO1, LO4)
- 50% Coursework 3: CW3 - Project CAD and Keyshot Renders (10 credits) (Module LO2, LO3, LO4)
Assessed by end of autumn semester
Educational Aims
Education Aims: To provide students with the practical design communication skills needed for use in professional design practice. To develop a range of techniques in mixed media and software which will allow them to progress in future design projects.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
LO1- Create engineering drawings to communicate complex technical design matters and understand how these can be used as a basis for quality control. (AHEP 14, 17)
LO2 - Understand and apply advanced CAD modelling techniques in the construction, assembly and creation of complex geometry. (AHEP 3,12)
LO3 - Understand and apply an efficient use of CAD visualisation software to create rendered images from CAD models. (AHEP 12,17)
LO4 - Discuss and apply good file management protocols for the purposes of security and professional practice. (AHEP 10)
