Summary

This module continues the study of Latin from the level reached in Q83IL1 Intermediate Latin 1. It continues to provide you with Latin language assistance as you consolidate your ability to read Latin texts. The module focuses on the reading of one or more Latin texts. Any students with queries about the level appropriate for them, or about pre-/co-requisites, should contact the module convener.

Target Students

Available to all Postgraduate level 4 students in the Department of Classics and Archaeology, exchange and subsidiary students. Module must be taken with CLAR4031 Intermediate Latin 1 for MA in the same academic year. Any students who cannot do that or with queries about the level appropriate for them, or about pre-/co-requisites, should contact the module convenor.

Educational Aims

This module aims to develop further your ability to read, understand and translate Latin. The module will consolidate grammatical knowledge acquired, expand working vocabulary, and increase your fluency at reading Latin literary texts.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

Latin syntax and its interpretation;

critical approaches to the study of Latin texts in the original language;

cultural and historical contexts for Latin literature;

the relevance of Latin for the study of the ancient world.

Engage in close and logical analysis of texts and arguments;

acquire substantial quantities of information systematically and process it effectively.

Read Latin texts independently and with a high level of accuracy and understanding.
