Educational Aims
The aims of the module are to provide students with:An understanding of the veterinary profession and professional conduct expectations.An understanding of assessment in the Year 1 BVMedSci course.The ability to use different learning resources.Development of skills involved in problem solving and decision making in clinical situations.Strategies to manage time and stress and build resilience.An ability to reflect on their own ability and plan methods to address learning gaps.Develop communication skills.An ability to draw together basic clinical and practical skills from core modules and apply to a ‘whole animal’ situation.Development of reflective ability.Learning Outcomes
At the end of this module, students should be able to demonstrate:
a. Knowledge and Understanding
Methods of learning, study and assessment;
Basic animal first aid and the approach to performing physical examination.
b. Intellectual skills
An ability to search for and utilise different learning resources;
Learning and study techniques which promote life-long learning.

An understanding of the professional role of the Veterinary Surgeon and their role in wider society;
A professional attitude and a high standard of professional behaviour;

An understanding of personal strategies to build resilience and cope with the demands of the course;
Development and maintenance of a personal portfolio.
