Summary
In consultation with members of staff, and with the approval of the MA course co-ordinator, students will select the subject area and title of the dissertation.
Full - time students will normally agree a provisional title before the end of the second semester.
Part-time students will normally agree a provisional title before the beginning of their final year.
Target Students
Only available to postgraduate students in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies
Classes
Tutorials with supervisor (in person, by email/skype or phone) as appropriate.
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: One 10,000-15,000 word dissertation

Educational Aims
To give students the opportunity to pursue their investigations of a subject of their choice in greater detail than is possible in the taught modules, and to gain experience of the methods and techniques of research.Learning Outcomes
•Knowledge and understanding:
Able to demonstrate a critical understanding of a topic of the student's own choice;
Able to demonstrate sustained critical analysis of an issue in Theology and/or Religious Studies.
•Intellectual skills:
Able to research a topic independently and in depth;
Able to make use of a range of primary and/or secondary information sources;
Able to formulate coherent and sustained analysis and argument;
Able to interpret and reflect on a range of sources, both primary and secondary.
•Professional practical skills:
Able to make discriminating use of a range of library and information resources in order to identify appropriate source material,
Compile bibliographies, inform research;
Able to show independence of thought, and critical self-awareness about one's own beliefs and commitments;
Able to communicate ideas, arguments, principles, theories and develop sophisticated argument
•Transferable (key) skills:
Able to undertake independent personal research;
Able to be self-motivated;
Able to manage time;
Able to deal with complex issues creatively and systematically;
Able to make appropriate use of a wide range of sources;
Able to continue to postgraduate research (for those students who wish to undertake it).
