Summary
This module explores interpretations of Muslim religious practice, theological doctrine, spirituality, and social relations from the beginning of the Islamic tradition to the present.
Target Students
Available to all students including subsidiary, Liberal Arts, and exchange students

Educational Aims
To become acquainted with key features of the Islamic religious tradition, gain appreciation of the historical diversity and dynamism in Muslim religious thought and practice, and reflect on how a variety of approaches to revelation continue to inform and inspire Muslims today.Learning Outcomes
a) Knowledge and understanding: of the textual foundations of Islam, the development and structure of the Islamic religious tradition, the diversity within this tradition, and Muslim interaction with modernity.
b) Intellectual skills: analysis of religious phenomena historically, critically and charitably, hermeneutical sensitivity in the interpretation of religious texts.
c) Professional practical skills: coherent and well-grounded argumentation in writing and verbally in seminars, cross cultural and comparative thinking.
d) Transferable skills: independent library research, working with and learning from others through class-room discussion.
