Summary
This course covers contemporary issues in selection and assessment both from a psychological perspective and as an important personnel system for organisations. It provides discussion of: the nature of the selection system, organisational and job analysis, recruitment, selection interviewing and psychometric testing, selection validation, the nature and use of assessment centres, and the adverse impact of selection methods. The emphasis throughout the course is on selection as a process comprising an identification stage, a design and delivery stage, and an evaluation stage, with multiple feedback loops between stages.
Target Students
Postgraduate students on Management Psychology, Occupational Psychology and Work and Organisational Psychology within the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology.
Classes
- One 4-hour lecture each week for 5 weeks
Assessment
- 40% Presentation: 20 minute Presentation.
- 60% Exam 1 (1-hour)

Educational Aims
Thiscourse has two major aims: first, to introduce students to the main issues relating to the practice of selection at work, and, second, to provide students with the knowledge base from which they can critically evaluate current practice.Learning Outcomes
