Summary

This course provides an introduction to various approaches to understanding organisations and the environments in which they operate. Areas covered include:

* Organisational structure, design, culture and climate
* Power, influence and negotiation in organisations; consumer psychology
* Methods and models of organisational development and change
* Organisational effectiveness, productivity, performance
* Groups, teams and teamwork.

Target Students

Postgraduate students registered on Occupational Psychology, Work & Organisational Psychology, Management Psychology within the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology.

Classes

Activities may take place every teaching week of the Semester or only in specified weeks.

Educational Aims

Organisational Change and Development (PSTY4070) provides an introduction to the literature on organisations, organisational change and the practice of Organisational Development (OD). Organisational environments are increasingly turbulent and organisations need to become more adept at dealing with and managing change in order to maintain effectiveness and performance. Thiscourse provides an introduction to the study of organisational structures, designs, culture, performance, the drivers of change; and how leaders, groups and teams interact to plan, manage and adapt to change. Thecourse comprises a series of lectures and practical exercises on topics that together define a broad overview of organisations, organisational change and organisational development.
