Summary

The module covers the core consultancy skills required by those studying occupational, work and organisational, occupational health and health psychology. It also considers ethical issues and the Code of Conduct of the British Psychological Society.

Target Students

Postgraduate students in the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology. Limited number of places on this module. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by offering school in advance may be cancelled without notice. Available to JYA/Erasmus students.

Classes

2 x 1 day workshop sessions with preparatory and follow-on work. TWorkshops involve senior academic staff with experience of consultancy work. Contact time: 2 x 6-hour workshop sessions; preparatory work: 20 hours; follow-on work: 6 hours: self study (including completion of coursework): 54 hours.

Educational Aims

The module aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of consultancy skills: how to deal successfully with organisations and professional bodies.OBJECTIVES:On completion of this module, students should be able to: understand the skills involved in "getting in, getting on and getting out" of organisations" be able to write for a non-academic audience, consider the ethical implications of working as a professional psychologist

Learning Outcomes

Cognitive Skills: problem-solving, analysis & synthesis, critical evaluation, self-evaluation, independent learning and group learning.

Practical Skills: time management and IT.

Professional Skills: teamwork, oral communication, written communication, project design, professional/ethical conduct and client-focused report writing.
