Summary
This module provides an introduction to clinical research with patients with acquired brain injury. Emphasis will be placed on the evaluation of studies which apply cognitive neuroscience and brain imaging. Topics will include mechanisms of recovery, visuospatial disorders, aphasia, apraxia, amnesia and dysexecutive syndrome. The incidence and nature of these impairments will be reviewed alongside consideration of contemporary theories and evidence on effects of rehabilitation therapies.
Target Students
Students registered for MSc Cognitive Neuroscience, 4th year MSci and other PGT students within School of Psychology.
Assessment
- 100% Assignment: Portfolio consisting of a) critical evaluation of one research paper, and b) discussion of a related essay question.

Knowledge of the common effects of brain injury on cognition and understanding of explanatory theories.

Ability to critically evaluate research in these areas.
