Summary
All research projects should involve either empirical work or computational modelling. Projects need not be original - replications and extensions of published work are acceptable.
Target Students
Final year Single Honours BSc Psychology and Single Honours BSc Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience students. Only available for students who have studied PSGY2001and PSGY2004.
Classes
- One 1-hour workshop each week for 11 weeks
Students work individually under the supervision of a member of staff to investigate an agreed problem. In addition to supervision meetings, students also attend some scheduled sessions to support them in various aspects of their project work.
Assessment
- 90% Coursework 1: Research Project Portfolio - 8,000 words
- 5% Coursework 2: Presentation
- 5% Coursework 3: Interim project proposal

Educational Aims
The aim of this module is to provide student with the opportunity to undertake an independent research project in an area of psychology.Learning Outcomes
On completion of the module students should be able to
1. Communicate ideas, argument, research findings effectively, through a variety of means, tailored to the target audience.
2. Plan, implement, and manage a research project.
3. Identify and practice ethical principles in the design and conduct of research projects in psychology.
4. Choose research methodology appropriate to the research question(s) and aims of their research study.
5. Manage, use, interpret, and evaluate numerical, qualitative, or other forms of data.
6. Analyse data using appropriate analytical methods.
7. Apply evidence-based reasoning to make critical judgments, develop an argument, and draw conclusions.
8. Critically evaluate psychological theory, research methodology, and research findings.
9. Apply psychological knowledge to derived from research to real world questions.
10. Ability to think critically and reflect on actions and experiences, identifying strengths and areas of development, to inform future actions.
11. Apply problem-solving skills.
12. Utilise appropriate digital tools to manage project work, and to communicate and collaborate with others.
13. Work inclusively and effectively with others to achieve a common goal.
