Summary
Psychology of Individual Differences
Target Students
Students from the Faculty, the University, and on exchange. This module has been particularly identified as suitable for year 1, year 2 & year 3 students including those from other schools, faculties, the University and on exchange. Please do note that this a full year module, you are required to completed both semesters.
Classes
- One 2-hour tutorial each week for 6 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 26 weeks
Assessment
- 25% Coursework 1: Essay 2000 words
- 50% Coursework 2: Reflective Report 2000 words
- 25% Exam 1 (2-hour)
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest
Educational Aims
The module aims to provide an introduction to individual differences and cognitive psychology. It examines research and theories in personality, intelligence, and human's mental processes. Students will be introduced to:1. Theories, research, and practice in intelligence, personality, and mental processes2. Methods of assessing individual differences in intelligence and personality3. Discussion of mental processes concept: attention, perception, languange, memory, and thinking processes4. Applied context and societal issues relating to individual differences and cognitive processesLearning Outcomes

1. How applied psychological theory can help individuals and groups to function, learn, and develop a strategic outlook
2. The theoretical underpinnings of areas of research and practice in applied psychology

1. The cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis, including the ability to identify
assumptions, define terms, etc
2. The ability to create, evaluate, and access a range of options and to apply ideas and knowledge to business situations

1. Self-awareness, openness, and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people, cultures, business and management issues
2. The ability to conduct research into applied psychology and/or business and management issues, either individually or as part of a team
