Summary
This course considers:
- Assessment and triage of patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions;
- Development of evidence based rehabilitation strategies to manage musculoskeletal pain conditions;
- Evaluation and management of prognostic indicators in the rehabilitation of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions;
- Consideration of National (UK) and International pathways of care in the management of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions;
- Completion of this course will enable practitioners to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to critically appraise and apply to practice the available evidence underpinning the assessment and rehabilitation of people with a range of musculoskeletal pain conditions;
- Keynote sessions reflect changes to practice, critical evidence and publication of new guidelines.
Target Students
Registered healthcare professionals, specifically aimed at physiotherapists but would be relevant for any healthcare professional working within this speciality.
Classes
A combination of class based learning, discussion groups, practical sessions, seminars and guided blended learning (up to 200 hours).
Assessment
- 100% Viva: 30 minute clinical viva.

Educational Aims
Completion of this course will enable participants to advance their knowledge and expertise in the management and rehabilitation of patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions.Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology in relation to understanding the underpinning theories of pain sciences.
Demonstrate knowledge of how pain effects muscle function and motor learning and rehabilitation principles and how these can be optimised in patients with musculoskeletal pain conditions.
Assessment of relevant exercise and rehabilitation analysis skills and exercise and rehabilitation.
Critically evaluate research/literature and local/national guidelines to develop rehabilitation strategies to optimise clinical practice and guide future service provision.
Demonstrate awareness and understanding of relevant current guidelines for the management of patients with musculoskeletal pain conditions.
Demonstrate effective written and verbal and inter-personal communication strategies by contributing to discussion forums.
Critical and reflective practice in analysing personal, professional and educational learning objectives and evaluating their own professional development and practice.
