Summary
Teams of students will set up, design a management plan, market, and run a simulated pharmacy business though the year, competing with other student run pharmacy businesses using gamification. Students will be confronted with routine activities, work-based projects, and incidents. Students will be supported in developing their pharmacy by the PLM module team and eLearning packages.
Students may take part in simulated consultations with patients, prescribers, nursing homes, inspectors and so on. Challenges might be to prepare a presentation for a clinical commissioning group on a new pharmacy service, respond to an ethical dilemma, resolve queries with prescriptions, prepare health promotion campaigns in response to needs or deliver new services. Students will develop a team culture, leadership, management, and appraisal skills to support their future professional roles.
Each team will operate their pharmacy (mixture of physical and online) in a series of simulated blocks throughout the year, to receive patients and to work on tasks. There will be teaching and learning materials on leadership management, pharmacy and business skills provided throughout the Year. Students will also have accesses to other training materials to learn new skills or enhance existing skills. Businesses may also be required to attend contractual meetings.
