Summary
This course considers:
• Normal anatomy and physiology: cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal and endocrine;
• Common diseases and their clinical presentations;
• How to take and present a systematic clinical history;
• How to conduct a comprehensive physical examination and present the findings;
• The abnormal clinical signs following a comprehensive clinical assessment;
• Cognitive bias;
• Scope of practice;
• Four pillars of advanced practice: clinical, leadership and management, education and research.

Classes
A combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, clinical skills (up to 400 hours) and independent learning
Assessment
- 40% Practical 1: Objective Structured Clinical Examination - OSCE.
- 20% Coursework 1: A written reflection on recognising cognitive bias.
- 40% Exam 1 (1-hour): Students are required to undertake an online assessment to test their understanding of anatomy and physiology

Educational Aims
This course aims to prepare healthcare professionalsto take a systematic clinical history, conduct a comprehensive physical examination, recognise and describe abnormal clinical signs and report the findings, when necessary, to a senior clinician in a structured way. Healthcare professionalswill consider associated responsibilities including cognitive bias, requesting investigations, interdisciplinary team working, patient referral mechanisms and professional accountability associated with working in an advanced role.Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate a detailed understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and genomics in relation to cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal and endocrine systems.

3. Perform clinical assessments using a range of assessment methods including history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
