Summary

Students will undertake a project that will advance their understanding in the practice of cognitive behaviour therapy practice and their understanding of, and ability to interpret, the evidence base underpinning CBT.  

The project they will undertake can be either a systematic review of cognitive behaviour therapy literature or an innovation report focusing on a change in practice.

 

Target Students

Students enrolled on the MScCognitive Behavioural Therapy.Individuals who have previously completed thea PGDip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy working in statutory and non-statutory organisations, including primary care IAPT services, and private practice.

Classes

Students will receive a minimum of six one-hour individual academic supervision sessions to develop their dissertation assignment. Additionally, students will receive face to face teaching on fundamentals of research, searching and critiquing the research literature, systematic reviewing, and some advanced clinical practice content. Tutor led: 25 hours E-Learning: 50 hours Self-directed: 525 hours Total: 600 hours

Educational Aims

To enable students to demonstrate their mastery of academic skills by completing a substantial project that generates knowledge which can be used to inform the practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

Have the ability to critically analyse and appraise the quality of the research evidence base underpinning cognitive behavioural therapy.

 

Have an understanding of contemporary issues and interventions within cognitive behavioural therapy.


Have a comprehensive understanding of and the ability to use appropriate techniques to investigate research and practice literature.

Intellectual Skills

Practise as a 'scientist practitioner', continuing to advance their knowledge and understanding to develop new skills with anxiety disorders and depression to a high level.

Complete a dissertation project that demonstrates an advanced understanding, application and critical evaluation of cognitive behavioural therapy for complex problems.

Professional/Practice Skills

Develop a project or literature review that will inform and contribute towards practice in cognitive behavioural therapy.

Reflect critically on issues involved in applying and disseminating research findings in the practice of cognitive behavioural therapy.
