• Identifying and working with unhelpful thoughts
• Behavioural activation using a guided self-help approach

Educational Aims
This course aims to introduce students to the CBT approach and develop student’s understanding of anxiety and depression disorders from a cognitive and behavioural perspective. It will enable students to support people (including themselves) to engage in CBT informed interventions to alleviate the symptoms and reduce the impact of anxiety and depressionLearning Outcomes
Understand and be able to explain depression and anxiety disorders from a cognitive and behavioural perspective
Demonstrate understanding and ability to effectively formulate presenting problems around depression and anxiety
Demonstrate the understanding and ability to effectively support someone (including the student themselves) to engage in guided self-help for depression and anxiety using CBT informed materials
Have an understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy including the evidence base underpinning it and indications for its use
