Classes

This course will be delivered over a period of 8 weeks via distance learning. A variety of teaching methods and learning strategies will be utilised combining live and recorded lectures delivered live via MS Teams and digital learning activities. Lectures will lead into interactive discussion of topics addressed through problem-based learning and reflection on experience. Students will be required to participate in a range of learning activities to enhance future practices in Tissue Viability. The remainder of the course hours will be utilised by the student for directed learning activities, independent study, assessment preparation and tutorials. Teacher contact time 56 hours, directed learning, independent study, assessment preparation and tutorials 144 hours. Total hours 200

Educational Aims

Completion of this course will enable participants to develop specialist knowledge, expertise and clinical decision-making skills underpinning the assessment, treatment and management of individuals with hard to heal and/or complex wounds. As a result students will be able to review clinical effectiveness, current service provision and contribute to the development of evidence-based practice.

Learning Outcomes

Critically appraise and interpret research and other forms of evidence to influence the advancement of contemporary wound care practices

Apply theoretical principles and knowledge acquisition to inform the delivery of evidence-based practice in wound care across the lifespan

Review and evaluate a range of preventative and assessment strategies from an international and organisational perspective to promote skin integrity and wound healing

Utilise problem solving and clinical decision-making skills to justify a rationale for care and therapeutic interventions for complex and hard to heal wounds

Lead improvements in wound care practices to improve clinical effectiveness in healthcare provision

Apply problem-solving skills to make improvements in clinical practice and critically evaluate research/literature and local/national guidelines to develop strategies to improve future service provision.
