Summary

This module will introduce music and computer science students to diverse approaches to combining music/audio with mixed reality (immersive technologies, AI, VR) in a series of lectures by Music and Computer Science staff/specialists. Students will form groups to develop collaborative projects that explore the creative meeting point of technology, music and interactivity.  

Target Students

Only available to Year 3 Single and Joint Hons Music students including Liberal Arts OR Year 3, Year 4 or MScComputer Science Students.

Classes

4 lectures, 3 hours each 4 workshops, 3 hours each 1 session of proposal presentations (3 hours) 1 final showcase (4 hours)

Assessed by end of autumn semester

Educational Aims

To familiarise students with diverse approaches to combining music with HCI and interactive and immersive technologies.To develop advanced skills in communication and collaboration.To realise music & mixed reality projects either in live performance or online.To develop ability to express research underpinning interdisciplinary projects orally and in writing.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be able to:
Understand and discuss musical and technical aspects of diverse projects bringing together music & HCI research
 

Analyse and critically discuss Music/HCI projects
 

Create Collaborative, Interdisciplinary Projects that explore the creative meeting point of technology, music and interactivity.
 

Reflect on their Interdisciplinary Projects to Inform Future Work
 


Transferable skills - Critical analysis, creative problem solving, advanced teamwork, communication and presentation skills.
