Summary
This module will introduce music and computer science students to diverse approaches to combining music/audio with mixed reality (immersive technologies, AI, VR) in a series of lectures by Music and Computer Science staff/specialists. Students will form groups to develop collaborative projects that explore the creative meeting point of technology, music and interactivity.
Target Students
Only available to Year 3 Single and Joint Hons Music students including Liberal Arts OR Year 3, Year 4 or MScComputer Science Students.
Classes
- One 3-hour workshop each week for 4 weeks
- One 4-hour un assigned
- One 3-hour un assigned
- One 3-hour lecture each week for 4 weeks
4 lectures, 3 hours each 4 workshops, 3 hours each 1 session of proposal presentations (3 hours) 1 final showcase (4 hours)
Assessment
- 50% Project: A group collaborative project to be presented or disseminated publicly, either in live performance or online.
- 50% Report: An essay of 2500-2750 words discussing the research underpinning the project, detailing the student’s individual contribution and reflecting on the collaborative process and success of the project

By the end of this module, students will be able to:
Understand and discuss musical and technical aspects of diverse projects bringing together music & HCI research
Analyse and critically discuss Music/HCI projects
Create Collaborative, Interdisciplinary Projects that explore the creative meeting point of technology, music and interactivity.
Reflect on their Interdisciplinary Projects to Inform Future Work
Transferable skills - Critical analysis, creative problem solving, advanced teamwork, communication and presentation skills.
