Summary
This module will require students to draw on all the skills and knowledge learnt within the programme to solve a design brief produced within their Major Project Preparation module. Project management will be required to navigate a large and complex body of work to ultimately create a high quality design, complete with manufacturing and user centred details.
Re-assessment
Students who fail this module overall and are required to complete a re-assessment will be re-assessed in all failed assessment components. The re-assessment mark for the module will be a combination of the marks from components passed first time and the components which have been re-assessed.
Target Students
Students undertaking Product Design and Manufacture (BEng)

Educational Aims
To manage and complete an extended, complex Industrial Design Project. During this body of work students should apply a variety of skills and knowledge to create a design for a commercial product.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
LO1 - Resolve complex and advanced problems as part of an open design brief, utilising the Design Process, skills and knowledge gained within the programme. (AHEP 6)
LO2 - Design solutions should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of commercial needs and societal context, sustainability, quality controls and relevant legal matters, standards and manufacturing processes. (AHEP 5, 11, 13)
LO3 - Create and present complex ideas in an appropriate way to both technical and non-technical audiences. (AHEP 17)
LO4 - Demonstrate understanding of the requirements of a diverse range of users and the relevant ethical concerns, and present inclusive solutions that consider these factors. (AHEP 5, 8, 11)
LO5 - Organise and manage project workload and timescales to meet exacting deadlines over a large and complex body of work, and reflect on the effectiveness of practice. (AHEP 18)
LO6 - Apply knowledge of workshop and laboratory skills to analyse and test concepts (AHEP 12)
LO7 - Maintain and compile reflections in-action and reflections on-action as a method to record your self-learning and development (AHEP 18)
