Summary

Localisation is taught in this module at the practical level: students will learn to complete and deliver localisation projects.  
 
This module provides practical skills essential to working in the main four sectors of the localisation industry: Globalisation, Localisation, Internationalisation and Translation (GILT). Students will be trained to localise common digital contents, such as productivity software, and assessed through executing localisation tasks and running a project team. Key areas of practical knowledge of the industry in this module will include new technological tools, legal and commercial applications in localisation, and business execution. 

Target Students

Compulsory for students enrolled in M.A. in Translation and Localisation. Optional for sister translation programmes.

Educational Aims

This module aims to significantly improve students’ digital competence for working in the localisation industry, by offering pivotal linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge. By the end of the term, students will be able to localise different forms of digital content, such as entertainment & productivity software and on-line textual information. Students will also acquire skills of developing marketing and regulatory materials for intended locales and integrating such materials into localisation projects.

B1  Undertake close textual analysis of a variety of types of literary and other texts. 

B2  Make critical use of primary and secondary source material, both written and audio-visual.

B5  Engage in critical and analytic reflection on the basis of ideas acquired through B1-4.
