Summary
This module will introduce students to the use of advanced language in different formats. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to research for language-based projects and ways of using advanced language skills in the dissemination of research results. The module will enhance students’ digital skills through a series of skills workshops and encourage them to think about language usage in alternative contexts, such as through podcasts, translation, short films or vlogs, and/or public performance. Students will work in a group to create a final Language Project based on a set theme (decided with convenor), and they will be assessed for their individual language inputs and group work. The project will then be uploaded online as a final product. Each student will have the opportunity to use the skills they have learned in the digital skills workshops. This module may be taken by students studying either Russian or Serbian/Croatian, and is an opportunity to complete an independently researched piece of work to contribute to a group project.

Only available for students studying in Russian or Serbian/Croatian in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures only.

Classes
- One 2-hour workshop each week for 4 weeks
Compulsory workshops will take place in the first 4 weeks of the Spring Semester to cover essential digital skills. Following this, students will engage in independent work, with the help of an academic supervisor. Supervisions will be conducted over the remaining 6 weeks in 4 slots of 30 minutes and students will be expected to meet several times weekly to organise contributions. The School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies operates an attendance policy. The details of this policy can be found in the student handbook on Workspace and in module handbooks.
Assessment
- 90% Project 1: For the final language project, students will be assessed on their individual language skills and their contribution to the group project.
- 10% Project 2: Maximum 1000 Words

Educational Aims
The aim of this module is to equip students with the skills required of linguists in the modern, digital workplace. It will introduce students to contemporary means of public engagement and give students the opportunity to combine their achievements in both content and language modules over the course of their degree.Learning Outcomes
