Summary
This module will combine revision of grammar with intensive exposure to a variety of types and registers of written and spoken Spanish, concentrating on appropriate thematic areas. It will consolidate and build on basic written, aural and oral language skills.

Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 11 weeks
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks

Assessment
- 60% Inclass Exam 1 (Written): Written assessment (1hr)
- 40% Inclass Exam 2 (Practical): Oral presentation

Educational Aims
This module aims to consolidate students' understanding of grammar and their ability to comprehend both structures and meanings in a variety of written texts, journalistic and otherwise. They will be encouraged to broaden their range of discursive strategies in both written and spoken Spanish and will also be trained in the comprehension of broadcast items on current affairs.Learning Outcomes
- Students will read and comprehend a variety of texts in Spanish from newspaper articles; they will follow contemporary audio-visual materials from live Spanish and Latin American television broadcasts; both of these skills covering a wide range of registers and local and national linguistic variation (A1, D2).
- They will produce written texts in Spanish, which aspire to consolidate and build on their level of grammatical accuracy.
- They will respond to situations, both formal and informal, constructing a reasoned argument in Spanish, on a current topic or issue, either orally or in writing, (C1, C2, C3, D4)
- demonstrating effective oral and written communication in Spanish (D1).
