Summary
This course considers:
a) Evidence-based care and midwifery clinical skills including interpersonal skills;
b) Promotion of universal midwifery care;
c) The midwife’s professional role including autonomy and accountability;
d) Effective communication in midwifery;
e) Introduction to parent education;
f) The initiation and continuation of breast feeding;
g) Participation in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care across a range of clinical settings;
h) Continuity of care and carer including case-holding and compassionate midwifery care;
i) Fetal monitoring and interpretation;
j) Practice of neonatal and maternal resuscitation;
k) Reflection in and on practice;
l) Principles of pharmacology, medicines management and administration

Classes
200 hours of learning delivered by a variety of methods, including self-directed study
Assessment
- 100% Inclass Exam (Practical): Multiple OSCEs to assess knowledge, understanding and skills.
- Coursework 1: Evidence of witnessed NIPE examinations under direct supervision (pass/fail)
- Assessment E-Practice Document: Assessment of practice learning via Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement (MORA) E-practice document (Pass/Fail)
