The content in this module will focus on physical health issues from across the spectrum of human conditions. Each topic will be addressed sensitively and students will be signposted to support should they be distressed by any of the content that is covered. Each teaching session is clearly labelled so students will be aware of the subject matter before engaging with it

To support the acquisition of knowledge on the basic concepts of biochemical matters and processes relating to health and diseases To facilitate the uptake of practical skills for the investigation of biochemical pathways implicated in clinical medicineLearning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding
At the end of this module, student should be able to::
a. Describe the role of biochemical molecules in human body functions
b. Describe the individual processes involved in major metabolic pathways implicated in the maintenance of normal human body physiological functions
c. Negotiate the interaction between metabolic pathways in a holistic manner with respect to human body functions
d. Principles behind and application of common biochemical laboratory procedures in clinical medicine
e. Apply knowledge acquired in this module in an integrative manner for the investigation of physiological and pathological conditions
Intellectual Skills
At the end of the module the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
a. assimilate information on a specialist topic and present it in a clear, structured manner
b. become proficient in critical thinking
c. effectively evaluate and analyse information
