Educational Aims
This module is designed to complement the research methods core module. It will provide students with in depth knowledge on a series of topics around understanding what makes a good clinical research publication, and therefore increasing their own chances of publication during their career.Students will be taught how to critically appraise clinical research (including performing their own critical appraisal) and what to consider when writing an abstract (and assessed by writing their own abstract for a piece of clinical research). They will also be directed on how to search for published research for practice and research purposes.Teaching will be a mixture of lectures and workshops (where exercises will be given to work through either individually or in small groups). There will be a significant amount of pre and post session reading / self-directed learning to support the teaching and provide a wider context for the material covered in the sessions. The coursework will provide the students with an opportunity to put into practice what they have been taught and will assess their understanding and how well they can apply the knowledge gained.Learning Outcomes
