Summary
This module includes the following topics: History of Medicine, Introduce students presentation topic areas, History of Anatomy, HTA and the legal framework, Bequests, coroner involvement, consent, legal issues. Students give a formative group presentation and submit a summative group poster on a themed topic
Target Students
Year 2 students registered on the BMedSci (A100 and A10S) and BSc Medical Sciences (A104).There is a limited number of places on this module. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice.
Classes
- One 2-hour workshop each week for 12 weeks
- One 3-hour practicum each week for 12 weeks
- Three 1-hour lectures each week for 12 weeks
Tutor-led 6x1 hour lectures; tutor-led 2x3 hour workshops, Student presentations 1x4 hour session; 85 hours student-led (to include creation of a group presentation and preparation and submission of coursework on a themed topic in 1500 words).
Assessment
- 70% Coursework 1: summative group poster 70% coursework
- 30% Coursework 2: 300-500 words

Educational Aims
The module is designed so that students can attain some of the outcomes specified by the GMC in Outcomes for Graduates (2018) in the areas ofProfessional values and behaviours; Professional skills; and Professional knowledge.These are detailed in the Module Learning Outcomes. During the module ‘History of Anatomy and Medicine’ students will be introduced to the historical context of anatomical teaching and the historical context to the legislation anatomical teaching operates under. Students will also perform a paired presentation on a historical topic in medicine of their choice. They will also create a piece of coursework on a themed topic.Student learning will predominantly be within the setting of a series of lectures and presentations, but there is also a requirement for private study to consolidate understanding of the material covered in the lectures, and to prepare the presentation and a reflective piece.Learning Outcomes
