Summary

Students will gain a grounding in planning, preparing and executing research in the field of molecular biology, microbiology immunology and genetics. They will learn how to plan research projects, assess published literature, analyse data and gain experience presenting research data and preparing publications, with an emphasis on the critical analysis of statistical methods.

Educational Aims

To gain understanding of the fundamentals of laboratory research, including research study design, execution of research, interpretation/presentation of research data, and statistical analysis. To encourage independent thinking about approaches to designing laboratory research.

Learning Outcomes

To demonstrate knowledge of preparation and analysis of research.

 Acquire and process information effectively and draw appropriate conclusions.

To process published data and make critical assessment of the quality of research.

To evaluate the rigour of ethics and statistical analysis of scientific experimentation and data. 

To demonstrate effective scientific communication.
