Classes

This module may be delivered through lectures, seminars, workshops and labs etc

Assessment

Assessed by end of spring semester

Educational Aims

This module will provide students with an opportunity to use their initiative and knowledge in undertaking an original research study in neuroscience in depth in a modern research environment. The practical component of the project will provide an opportunity for the student to carry out original, relevant scientific research, and to relate the outcomes to scientific concepts and knowledge of the field. The student will contribute to the design of the study, gain familiarity with the methods/techniques and where appropriate safety procedures relevant to the topic, undertake data collection and appropriate quantitative analysis, and prepare a report. The project is concerned with the following professionally valuable skills which you will already have to some degree: - Ability to assess and summarise the scientific literature in a particular field of interest. - Ability to plan and carry out that plan. - Ability to organise and present a report of your studies, observations and conclusions.

Learning Outcomes

Depending on the type of project carried out students are expected to understand the planning of laboratory experiments,

correct procedure in carrying out those experiments,

ability to recognize errors in experiments,

ability to collate data appropriately,

ability to carry out appropriate statistical analysis,

ability to write up the data in an appropriately scientific manner.
