Summary

This module will introduce a wide range of research methods used in contemporary neuroscience research, both in vitro and in vivo. Students will develop an understanding of why and how these methods are used, which will aid in designing experiments and comprehending of the scientific literature, within the field of neuroscience. 

Target Students

Only available to 2nd Year U6UNEURS and U7UNEURS (B140 and B141) BSc and MSci Neuroscience students.

Educational Aims

To introduce students to contemporary methods in neuroscience research, so they are able to understand how and why these techniques are used. This will enable them to understand the scientific research in the field of neuroscience.

Learning Outcomes

To explain the principles behind and application of many widely used practical tools employed in neuroscience research

To effectively be able to choose techniques to address scientific questions

To be able to critically evaluate the positives and negatives of particular experimental approaches to addressing neuroscience research questions
