Summary
This module is concerned with the European Union's (EU) status as a global trade power. Subjects examined include the EU's competence to conduct trade policy and its effectiveness to achieve objectives beyond trade; the scope of Common Commercial Policy, EU/WTO relationship; trade and human rights; trade and development cooperation; EU-UK trade relations in the wake of Brexit.

Only available to PGT students within the School of Law and exchange students hosted by the School of Law.

Educational Aims
To develop knowledge and understanding of EU international relations with an emphasis on trade.Learning Outcomes
- Students would acquire knowledge and develop an in-depth understanding of the EU’s legal framework on external trade, including EU treaties and case law.
- They will be able to evaluate and analyse the most pressing issues as far as EU trade policy is concerned, as well as the role of international trade law in the EU legal order.
- Students will have developed the capacity for critical thinking to question the efficiency of the EU trade policy in advancing wider EU foreign policy objectives, including eradication of poverty and promotion of human rights.
- Students will also acquire such practical skills as legal reasoning, research and writing skills in addition to developing their communication skills through participation in discussions in class, as well as individual or group presentations.
