Summary
This module involves a critical analysis of the law relating to spouses, civil partners and cohabitants. It has four sections:
(1) The law's construction of the family
(2) Occupation rights and domestic abuse remedies
(3) Distribution of property and money on relationship breakdown
(4) Financial provision for children on relationship breakdown
Target Students
Only available to UG Year 2 or Final Year students in the School of Law and Exchange students hosted by the School of Law.
Classes
This module is taught through a combination of lectures and tutorials.
Assessment
- 100% Exam (3-hour): Electronic examination.

Educational Aims
To develop an understanding of substantive family law.To encourage a critical and reform-oriented approach to the study of law.To encourage awareness of the social and practical implications of legal rules.To encourage consideration of the relative merits of, and the inter-relationship between, legal and non-legal solutions to family law problems.Learning Outcomes
