Summary
The module addresses the main substantive principles of general contract law. Topics considered include formation of contracts, vitiating factors, the contents of contracts, and discharge and remedies.
Target Students
Only available to UG Year 1 students in the School of Law and exchange students hosted by the School of Law.
Classes
This module is taught through a combination of lectures and tutorials.
Assessment
- 25% Exam 1 (2-hour): Electronic examination, assessed in Autumn semester.
- 75% Exam 2 (3-hour): Electronic examination, assessed in Spring semester.

Educational Aims
To enable students to understand and apply the principles of the law of contract. To acquire a thorough understanding of the principles of contract law and to enable students to analyse, apply and critique such principles.Learning Outcomes
In this module, students should:
Develop a knowledge and understanding of the main principles of general contract law, and to a limited extent some specific contracts;
Develop skills in reading and analysing primary legal sources, especially case law;
Develop skills in the application of legal principles to practical problems;
Develop skills in the articulation of reasoned legal analysis in the common law tradition in oral and written form;
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of contract law and their application in written form across a breadth of topics.
