Summary

This module continues to perfect the productive skills of the student in the target language, with an emphasis on an individual syllabus related to the student's academic and career interests. A single written assessment will replace all failed assessment components at the reassessment stage.

Target Students

This module is open to all students provided their home department agrees. There is a limited number of places on this module. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice. This module is not usually available to first year students. Please note, your enrolment on this module will be conditional on subsequent attendance at an assessment by the Language Centre, where your appropriate language level will be confirmed. Failure to attend the assessment may result in your enrolment being cancelled. Dates and times of the assessment sessions will be advertised on the Language Centre website. Available to JYA/Exchange students.Only available to students who have completed LANG4007 Inter Faculty French 6a (or those who have 2 years of post A-level language tuition or equivalent)

Classes

Students must be able to attend all three hours of class tuition or notify the tutor if they are unable to attend. Persistent failure to attend without good reason could lead to disqualification from examinations or the withholding of credits (School Attendance Policy can be found on Moodle)

Educational Aims

This stage is intended for final year students, able to undertake independently a project in their area of specialism. It is designed to improve productive skills in the Target Language, with greater emphasis on an individual syllabus related to the students' academic and career interests. Students will be trained to use the language in preparation for their first year of professional activity in their own field by improving general communicative skills, particularly in terms of variety, appropriateness of register and grammatical accuracy

Learning Outcomes

Summarising, specialist translation, report-writing (information retrieval and textual reorganisation), textual discrimination, oral presentation, an awareness of specialist and non specialist audiences, cultural awareness, current affairs awareness.
