Summary
This module continues from stage 5a in the further development of productive skills. It will also concentrate on the socio-economic/socio-cultural registers of language and deal with contemporary issues of the country whose language is being studied. A single written assessment will replace all failed assessment components at the reassessment stage.

Target Students
This module is open to all students provided their home department agrees. There is a limited number of places on this module. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice. This module is not usually available to first year students. Please note, your enrolment on this module will be conditional on subsequent attendance at an assessment by the Language Centre, where your appropriate language level will be confirmed. Failure to attend the assessment may result in your enrolment being cancelled. Dates and times of the assessment sessions will be advertised on the Language Centre website. Available to JYA/Exchange students. Only available to students who have completed LANG4001 Inter Faculty French 5a (or 1 year of post A-level language tuition or equivalent).
Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 10 weeks
- One 2-hour seminar each week for 10 weeks
The School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies operates an attendance policy. The details of this policy can be found in the student handbook on Workspace and in module handbooks. 2--3 hours class contact per week.
Assessment
- 60% In-Class Exam: 1 x 2-hour in-class written exam.
- 40% In-Class Oral Exam: 1 x in-class oral exam, 15 mins interpreting task.

Educational Aims
The module continues to develop the students' language skills as well as their fluency in French The course will rely heavily on the use of authentic materials. The students are encouraged to make full use of the wide range of support language learning materials available on Moodle. This module will concentrate on refining written skills by focusing on summary and critical opinion writing in the target language and translation from English into French. It will also concentrate on the advanced oral skills of discussion and ad hoc interpreting.Learning Outcomes
