Summary

This module further extends the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing to enable students to gather and process information accurately and quickly through discussion, from radio and TV, and from written sources. Teaching methods involve intensive classes and the use of language laboratory materials. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.

 Requisites:
- Successful completion of Japanese 3A or an equivalent qualification.
- Students must not choose this course if they are over-qualified. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
 

 

Please note this module is assessed at the end of the Spring semester.  First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

Target Students

-Only students who are doing this module as a compulsory element of their degree can take this module.-Students enrolling on this module must be lower intermediate users of Japanese (B1.1).

Educational Aims

Upon the completion of this level, students are expected to be able to:-Understand the main points of varieties of inputs on matters encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.-Deal with complex situations where they need to explain, argue, and discuss their opinions (e.g., agree, disagree).-Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions.-Briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.-Produce connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
