Summary
This module aims to develop the student’s knowledge of Arabic in its religious uses by instruction in accurate reading, pronunciation, and contextual interpretation of Quranic Arabic. It is designed for learners looking not only to improve their pronunciation of Arabic words, but also to enhance their understanding of Quranic Arabic and its cultural and historical contexts.
The module will introduce learners to Arabic phonetics, and to Tajweed (the set of rules governing the pronunciation of Quranic Arabic). Tajweed rules to be covered include those governing elongation, pauses, and the correct pronunciation of the sounds of letters within specific words, phrases, and verses (precise articulation points).
Learners will also attend to rhythm and melody in interactive recitation exercises leading to improved Quran recitation skills.

Students will learn about Noon Sakinah, Tanween, and Meem Sakinah Rules
Students will learn when to apply Heavy vs. Light Letters within specific vocabulary items so that homophones are clarified in each individual utterance to avoid any mix-up of words which might deceptively look similar in writing.
