Summary

This module assumes no prior knowledge of the language. It introduces students to basic skills of listening and speaking, enhanced by intensive interaction in class, the use of online  materials, e-learning and multi-media methods.
Students are also required to undertake a programme of autonomous learning. The module will be delivered in a blended modality for which students will be given access to a virtual learning environment with extra activities and resources.

Requisites:

Students enrolling on this module must be complete beginners in Mandarin. The Language Centre reserves the right to check students’ prior learning and qualifications and to move students to a more appropriate level if necessary.
 

Please note this module is assessed at the end of Autumn semester. First sit/ Resit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

Educational Aims

The overall aim of the module is to introduce students to basic skills in listening and speaking of Mandarin. Students will continue to develop their awareness of autonomy in language learning under the guidance of their language tutor.
