The module is designed to enable individuals to select appropriate investigations and analyse clinical findings through the  application of clinical decision making and reasoning theory.

Educational Aims

The aim of the module is to support the development of knowledge and skills in clinical decision making and reasoning. Building on previous theoretical and practical experience, individuals will strengthen their ability to determine evidence-based therapeutic assessments and enhance their professional judgement and ability to manage complex and unpredictable care.

Learning Outcomes

Critically explore the concepts of clinical decision making and clinical reasoning in relation to own area of practice and professional registration

Demonstrate the ability to articulate clinical reasoning with reference to clinical cases from own area of specialist practice

Critically appraise the contribution and accuracy of available tools and techniques to support clinical decision making

Demonstrate critical analysis in applied thinking and decision making in complex clinical situations with reference to: 
a. Anatomy and physiology
b. Pathophysiology
c. National and local guidelines
d. Specialist diagnostic tests
e. Probability
f. Risk and safety

Using tools and techniques of clinical decision making, demonstrate the ability to assimilate and synthesise complex health information to ensure care is delivered in the best interests of the patient population
