Summary
This module will develop and debate the Knowledge, Skills and Attributes within the Health Education England (HEE) Roadmap to Practice and will consider the four pillars of a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) working as an Advanced Masters level in Clinical Practice in Primary Care; Research, Leadership and Management, Education and Clinical Practice. These 4 pillars will be mapped against the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) level 7 standards.
The module will develop skills and knowledge to critically evaluate and apply the principles that underpin working at an Advanced Level as an FCP in Primary care, which are autonomous practice, critical thinking, high levels of decision-making, person centred care and improving practice.
Target Students
Students on the PG Cert First Contact Practitioner programme.Learners must be a qualified physiotherapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for at least three years. The learner must be working in UK primary care. Additionally, learners will need to be entering a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) role on commencement of the programme and have their FCP primary care clinical placement arranged prior to enrolment on the programme.A first degree in physiotherapy with at least a 2:2 or above classification or equivalent.

- 100% Coursework 1: Portfolio project - 3,000 words

Educational Aims
Theaim of the module is to develop student’s engagement in critical thinking and reflection in the integration of theory and practice to show how they demonstrate safe, effective practice working at an advanced level as an FCP in primary care. The student will critically evaluate current evidence, guidelines and clinical frameworks to demonstrate evaluation of clinical skills and knowledge. Additionally, assessment, management, leadership, collaborative practice, improving quality, developing healthcare practice within their role as an FCP and related to the goals of the interdisciplinary team working within primary care.Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate confidence in the application of advanced methods of scholarship and techniques to critically evaluate dimensions of theory and practice in relation to First Contact Practitioner
Critically evaluate complex problems and problem solve to develop and lead on solutions based on sound evidence, professional and clinical judgment through working alongside clinical practice and academic guidance.
Initiate, lead and plan service developments and risk assessment within primary care.
.Demonstrate knowledge of educational theories to create an effective learning culture in collaboration with peers that provides appropriate professional and interdisciplinary learning opportunities for clinical practice.
Communicate knowledge of advanced practice and disseminate to the Interprofessional team within primary care.
