Summary
This module will focus on the benefits to patient safety that come from collaborative practice. Participants will attend a three-hour workshop where in small interprofessional teams they will analyse a case study and create a poster that outlines the fundamentals of patient care and takes an in-depth look at where patient safety can be improved using good collaborative practice. They will then present their poster to their peers for feedback. .
The workshop will allow participants to explore their professional knowledge and gain a better understanding of the roles and boundaries of professional roles within their interprofessional team. By the end of the module, participants will have a better understanding of the key interprofessional facets of patient safety and have developed their ability to collaborate on creating a poster and delivering a group presentation.
Target Students
Year 2 students studying in healthcare and social work courses.
Classes
Each participant will meet for one three-hour workshop to complete the required activity.
Assessment
- 100% Participation: Must attend a workshop. Pass is given based on attendance. There is only one workshop that the participants must attend, so the pass will be 100% or 0%

Create a poster of a multidisciplinary care plan, developed as an interprofessional team.
Recognise professional roles and responsibilities within collaborative practice, and the boundaries between them.
Collaborate effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team to combine knowledge and understanding of the case study involved, by conducting appropriate research and learning from peers.
Illustrate depth of knowledge and understanding of how each profession contributes to the care of a patient.
Explain how collaborative practice and care can improve patient safety.
