Summary

The module examines the history of modern Italy (19th-21st centuries) through her many ties and networks with the wider world. Particular relevance is given to key moments and developments in the history of modern Italy that emphasise the connections and the circulations of ideas, people, and goods across borders. Italy is thus used as a fascinating case study to reflect critically on nation-states and associated notions and phenomena, such as identity, sense of belonging, migration, warfare, colonialism and post-colonialism.
