Summary
This module examines media and methods-of-making across the history of art and visual culture. Focusing on how artworks are produced, the module considers why particular media and processes have been used by artists and architects from the Renaissance to today, and how this impacts the value, status, and meaning of objects.
In this way, the module will explore the creative use of a diverse range of art materials, including paint, bronze, marble, and plastic, as well as more unconventional media, such as text, the spoken word, and the human body. The module will also engage with the processes that lie behind more recent methods of visual production, such as photography and film, in its discussion of how formal decisions of making affect the meaning and reading of representation.
A single coursework assessment will replace all failed assessment components at the reassessment stage.
