Summary
This module will require students to research an environmental issue under the supervision of an appropriate member of staff and to report their findings in the form of a written report (12,000 words) or other relevant format as approved by the module convenor. Students will also seek and reflect upon input or guidance from a relevant industry representative (project partner). Key skills developed include those of independent study, critical analysis, problem articulation, solution design and report writing.
Target Students
Students registered on the MSc in Environmental Leadership and Management or MSc in Environmental Leadership and Management (TBU).
Classes
Teaching will take place in the form of supervision meetings.

- 100% Coursework: 12,000 words

Educational Aims
The aim of this module is to allow students to make a detailed independent analysis of an applied environmental leadership or management challenge of their choice and to report their findings or proposed solutions in appropriate ways. The module will encourage the analysis of an environmental issue from an inter-disciplinary perspective. Students will be expected to link up and explore several areas of study covered during the MSc in Environmental Leadership and Management programme.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding. The student will be able to:
- Describe the organisational, societal and geographic context of a particular environmental challenge.
- Understand the leadership or management dimensions of a particular environmental challenge.
Intellectual skills. The student will be able to:
- Integrate theory and knowledge from across disciplinary backgrounds to generate novel and applied insights.
- Innovatively frame an environmental leadership or management issue and develop a relevant plan of action.
- Critique existing knowledge, theory or methods.
- Relate novel findings to academic literature and policy or procedural documents.
Professional practical skills. The student will be able to:
- Design solutions to an environmental issue or problem relevant to a particular organisational or societal context.
- Apply study or research design to answer a question appropriately.
Transferable skills. The student will be able to:
- Communicate clearly in written form to disseminate findings.
- Organise and manage a project effectively within a set timescale.
- Utilise graphical output to communicate information clearly.
