Key topics considered in this module may include a selection of the following: the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the biosphere, the geosphere, the cryosphere, environmental change, and/or earth observation.
Target Students
Available to Year 1 students and Exchange students. The module is available to non-Geography undergraduate students in Year 1 with an interest in the Earth's physical environment.

- 50% Online Exam 2 (2-hour): Online exam Autumn
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest
Educational Aims
The core aim of the module is to provide an understanding of key Earth systems and human-Earth system interactions. On completion of the module, students will have developed an ability to think analytically about dynamic aspects of the Earth and its environment.Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of key Earth systems and processes.
- Demonstrate understanding of human-Earth system interactions.
- Synthesise information and recognise its relevance.
- Evaluate and articulate weaknesses in the arguments of others.
- Evaluate the diversity of approaches used in analysing Earth systems.
- Undertake self-directed learning to achieve consistent, proficient, and sustained attainment.
