Summary
The module introduces students to contemporary and historical approaches to understanding globalisation and its spatial unevenness. Students will develop knowledge relating to globalisation as a set of discourses and practices using case studies relating to key themes of relevance. Lectures will outline the key debates relating to globalisation as a phenomenon and will interrogate the relevance of the concept through an examination of commodities, digital platforms, governance, migration and the environment, for example. Throughout the module, staff will draw upon their own research as well as the wider academic literature, giving students a sense of the complexity, and importance, of globalisation as a set of theories and a set of sited realities.

Open to all students at level 1. Recommended optional module for students taking single honours BA Geography (L700). Available to JYA students.

Educational Aims
This module aims to provide students with an introduction to the geographies of globalisation, drawing on economic, cultural, historical, and environmental perspectives, providing an overview of recent research in the field, including that undertaken by staff within the School of Geography. Students will gain knowledge of key theoretical concepts in the exploration of globalisation and this understanding will be developed through the study of pertinent geographical case studies. Furthermore, globalisation will be situated within an historical framework that helps explain the development of the themes that will be addressed.Learning Outcomes
