Summary

The module provides students with introductory knowledge about current issues in human geography. It critically examines the complex relations between people and places through a range of key themes and concepts. Attention is given to innovative work in cultural, historical, health, environmental, economic and political geography and to the traditionally broad perspective of human geography as a whole. The module will examine a variety of key themes that may vary from year to year. This module provides a foundation for more specialised human geography modules at levels 2 and 3.

Target Students

Available to Exchange, Single and Joint Honours Geography students and Liberal Arts students. Cannot be taken with GEOG1003 Exploring Human Geography (10 cr Autumn) or GEOG1016 Exploring Human Geography (10 cr Spring).

Classes

Teaching will be delivered through a series of Lectures.

Assessed in both autumn & spring semest

Educational Aims

This module provides undergraduates with detailed introductory knowledge and understanding of a range of current issues in human geography. The issues relate to current themes of interest across the broad range of human geography and its varied sub-disciplines, including cultural, historical, environmental, political, health and economic approaches. The module is designed to feed into more specialist modules in the second and third years.
