Summary
This course aims to provide students with an introduction to all of the fundamental and central concepts within public health including:
• Introduction to Health Inequalities
• Introduction to Determinants of Health
• Introduction to Health Service Planning
• Introduction to Health Improvement
• Introduction to Health Protection and risk
• Introduction to Leadership and Collaboration for Public Health
• Introduction to Global Public Health
• Introduction to Public Health Practical Skills.
Target Students
Primarily postgraduate students on the Master of Public Health, Master of Public Health (Global Health) and Master of Public Health (Research Methods). Places will be available to new staff and PhD students in School of Medicine who require training as part of their research role.
Classes
- One 2-hour-30-minute lecture
One week block taught at the beginning of the Autumn semester.
Assessment
- 100% Coursework: Portfolio equivalent to 2,500 words

Educational Aims
The overall aim of thiscourse is to provide students with an introduction to all key central concepts and topics within Public Health, including key words and terms, key theories and concepts, key practices, key policies and case studies.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
To understand and apply the fundamental concepts, theories and key terms within public health topics. To apply key public health concepts to public health scenarios, case studies and practice. To form links between different public health topics.
