Summary
This pod explores the use of empirical methods of reader response in stylistics. Across the pod, students will explore the role, position and identity of the reader, thinking in detail about who we are referring to when we talk about 'the reader' in Stylistics. They will investigate a range of experimental and naturalistic methods of gathering reader-response data. Students will also investigate the relationship between empiricism and introspection and examine the benefits and limitations of empirical approaches with regard to stylistic analysis. The pod also sets out the key aspects involved in planning reader-led studies in Literary Linguistics.
