Summary
This pod explores the artistic movement of surrealism, focusing principally on its emergence and high point between the two world wars, though the later influence of surrealism will also be considered. The emphasis is on the form and technique of literary surrealist writing in English. Forms of creative production are explored, particularly in relation to the surrealists’ own understanding of language and linguistics. Surrealist output is also considered from a literary-linguistic and cognitive poetic perspective in order to explore a view of surrealism and surrealist activity from the vantage point of current understanding of language and linguistics.
