Summary
This pod deals with developing the necessary expertise and skills to plan, organise and evaluate the teaching process on courses and programmes aimed at second language (L2) learners. While mainly addressing the practicalities of teaching English as a foreign/second language (TESOL), the pod allows students to consider various aspects of the process of language teaching more broadly, providing them with the opportunity to study and contemplate on modern approaches and practices in the area of formal language instruction. By discussing specific aspects and skills related to the development of L2 competence (e.g. reading, listening, speaking, writing, sociolinguistic and pragmatic skills), the pod reviews and analyses the latest teaching methods and techniques that characterise modern thinking in language education, enabling students to develop practical knowledge as a teacher of English as a second/foreign language.
